FAJAR.CO.ID, JAKARTA-Member of Commission V of the Indonesian Parliament, Adian Napitupulu, bluntly rejecting the assumption that people who demand rights from the state can be called beggars.
Adian said, all economic transactions of the community were basically taxed by the state.
“Buy cigarettes pay taxes, buy rice pay taxes, buy shoes pay taxes, buy clothes also pay taxes,” Adian was quoted as saying on Sunday (9/14/2025).
He asserted, almost every economic activity of the people contributed to the state of state.
“Pay anything, there is always a tax. All taxes enter the country,” he said.
Therefore, he considered naturally if the public asked for free education or health services.
“If you ask for free education, it’s not begging,” he said.
For Adian, the people only ask what they have given to be returned in the form of facilities.
“They just ask, return what we have given you,” he explained.
That adds to the rights of the people.
“I have paid taxes, so I have the right to be safe once 24 hours anywhere,” Adian said.
Adian explained, it was the people’s tax that was used to finance the authorities and security infrastructure.
“The tax is bought by weapons, used to train the police, and finance the handling of cases,” he added.
Therefore, he strongly refused if the people who asked for service were considered as beggars.
“They are not beggars. They ask for their rights to be returned in the form of free health, free education,” said the PDI -P politician.
