Eradication of illegal delivery of migrant workers

FAJAR.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Legal practitioner, Affandi Affan expressed full support for the strict steps of the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) in eradicating the illegal delivery practices of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).

Affan stressed that illegal shipping not only violates the law, but also endangers the safety and future of migrant workers.

“As a lawyer and advocate, I see how migrant workers who depart without official procedures are very vulnerable to being victims of exploitation and loss of legal protection,” Affan said.

In addition, Affan stressed the importance of socialization and legal education to prospective migrant workers and their families so that they understand the rights and risks that might be faced if they choose illegal paths.

“Adequate legal socialization must be carried out massively, especially in migrant worker pockets. This education is the key so that the community is not easily trapped in the practice of illegal shipping,” he said.

Affan also appreciated the commitment of the Minister of P2MI, Abdul Kadir Karding, who firmly rejected all forms of illegal shipping practices and tried to ensure that each PMI received protection and prosperity.

“The state must be present to protect migrant workers as national assets. Collaboration between the Ministry of P2MI, law enforcement officials, and civil society is very important to end this crime of human trafficking,” Affan added.

As an advocate that focuses on the protection of migrant workers, Affan calls for regulatory strengthening, legally supervision of PMI placement, as well as expanding access to legal assistance for PMI who have problems abroad.
