Jakarta – Alleged acts of thuggery against small traders went viral again on social media after being uploaded by Jhon Sitorus on Friday, April 10 2026.
In his upload, Jhon wrote:
“It is suspected that because the poor meatball seller in Tanah Abang did not give a deposit of 100 thousand, these well-built brothers broke the meatball seller’s bowls.
“According to local residents, the meatball seller stopped selling and chose to return to his hometown.”
The upload immediately caught the public’s attention and sparked various reactions from netizens.
Based on the narrative circulating, the incident occurred because the meatball seller did not fulfill the daily deposit request of IDR 100 thousand. As a result, a well-built man is suspected of carrying out the damage by breaking the bowls belonging to the trader.
Local residents said the incident had a big impact on the victim. The meatball seller finally chose to stop selling and return to his hometown because he felt depressed and insecure.
This case quickly went viral and drew widespread criticism. Many netizens highlighted the still widespread practice of illegal levies (extortion) and acts of thuggery targeting small traders.
They urged law enforcement officials to immediately intervene and ensure the safety of micro business actors, especially in trading areas such as Tanah Abang.
