FAJAR.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Economic and political observer, Heru Subagia, said that President Prabowo Subianto’s move to invite a number of former Presidents and Vice Presidents was not solely based on the spirit of national consolidation.
As is known, Prabowo invited former presidents and vice presidents to the Jakarta Presidential Palace Tuesday (3/3/2026) evening.
Some of those present included Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), Joko Widodo (Jokowi), and Jusuf Kalla.
According to him, this step actually reflects the political and economic anxiety that the government is currently feeling.
“I see that Prabowo’s urgency is not in the perspective of national and state awareness,” said Heru to dawn.co.id, Friday (6/3/2026).
He emphasized that the situation currently facing the government made President Prabowo feel the need to reach out to national figures to reduce the pressure that was emerging.
“But it more reflects how urgent fear is felt and ultimately includes the urge to pick up the ball by presenting national figures,” he continued.
Linked to the BoP Polemic
Heru linked this step to the strong criticism recently directed at the government regarding the BoP issue.
“I have observed that Prabowo’s urgency in involving the former President and Vice President is related to the fact that currently Prabowo is being strongly criticized in his relationship with the BoP,” he said.
He explained that the BoP was initially designed as an effort to promote peace. However, in its development, it is considered to have shifted direction.
