PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) stated that it was ready to follow up on President Prabowo Subianto’s direction to carry out an inventory of areas and residents living around the railway line as a form of securing the railway area. KAI supports the president’s instructions in coordinating with a number of ministries.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said this step was a follow-up to the President’s inspection of the rail border area around Pasar Senen Station, Central Jakarta, Thursday (26/3). Bobby said that the inventory of residential areas was part of area security.
“KAI supports the President’s instructions by taking inventory of residential areas around the rail line and securing the area. We are coordinating with the Ministry of Public Works for short-term solutions, as well as with other ministries and parties for long-term steps,” said Bobby in a written statement reported BetweenFriday (27/3/2026).
Bobby said that for the Pasar Senen area, KAI would carry out further checks and studies as an initial stage, which would then be expanded to other points along the railway line. Arrangement of rail border areas to provide adequate housing while creating a safer and more orderly environment.
“Organizing settlements around rail lines is an important part of providing a more decent environment for the community while strengthening the safety of train travel,” said Bobby.
KAI manages more than 327 million square meters of railway land which has the potential to support residential development. In the Jabodetabek area, the development potential reaches around 131 thousand residential units located around transportation nodes.
“KAI is following up on the President’s instructions through three main steps, namely inventorying residential areas around the rail line, securing the railway area, as well as collaborating with the Ministry of Public Works for short-term solutions and with other parties for long-term steps to support decent housing and improving people’s living standards,” said Bobby.
Previously, President Prabowo met residents or blusukan on the railroad tracks in the Senen area, Central Jakarta. After absorbing people’s hopes, Prabowo ordered a number of ministers and PT KAI leaders to build adequate housing for residents living along the railway tracks in the Senen area.
