The owner of the nickel mine in Raja Ampat opens the voice after being stopped temporarily

FAJAR.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, announced that PT Nickel’s Nickel Mining activities in Raja Ampat, Papua had been stopped.

“For the time being, we stop the operation until the field verification. We will check,” Bahlil said, on Thursday 6 June 2025.

On the other hand, since June 5, 2025 the company’s mining business license (IUP) has been involved.

Due to environmental activists and civil society alliances because it threatens ecosystems. Then this step was taken because of the many rejections of nickel mining activities in Raja Ampat.

Acting President Director of PT Gag Nickel Arya Arditya open votes, related to this matter. Arya said that the company received and fully avoided the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources until the field verification process was completed.

“We understand the importance of transparency and compliance with all government regulations, especially those relating to environmental protection and the welfare of the local community,” he said in a written statement, quoted Monday (9/6/2025).

Arya even ensured that the nickel gag already had all operational licenses and carried out sustainability operations in accordance with the principle of good mining practices.

Thus, supporters needed in the confirmation process to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, as well as the company in the prepared stage of delivering all types of documents needed.

The company also operates outside the conservation area or UNESCO Geopark. Operational permits obtained by Gag Nickel are included in the Raja Ampat mining area in the regional spatial planning.
