“It is necessary to be given space for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and KLH to conduct a thorough and objective evaluation,” Alfons said in an official statement in Jakarta, quoted Sunday (6/8/2025).
He expressed his support for the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, who temporarily suspended the nickel mining operation owned by PT Gag Nickel on Gag Island, Raja Ampat.

“The Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources is responsive to the aspirations of the community and preserving the environment of Raja Ampat,” said the legislator from the electoral district of West Papua.
Termination of temporary activities is carried out following reports from the public that indicate the potential for violations in the company’s operations, both from technical and environmental aspects.
