FAJAR.CO.ID – A video showing an online motorcycle taxi driver (ojol) refusing an order from a junior high school student has gone viral and sparked heated debate on social media.
The order was rejected allegedly because the passenger’s body posture was considered large, giving rise to controversy related to body shaming.
Rejection of Orders and Netizens’ Reactions
In the widely circulated video, the driver cancels the order for the “savings package” service for reasons of comfort and safety. This action immediately drew criticism from netizens who saw this action as a form of body shaming and embarrassing passengers.
Meanwhile, the ojol driver provided clarification via his personal social media account. He explained that order cancellations were based on technical and safety considerations, especially after his experience of experiencing motorbike shockbreaker damage due to excessive load.
Driver’s Clarification and Apology
“I don’t mean to bully, but rather want to educate about choosing appropriate services,” he emphasized in his clarification.
Furthermore, the driver said that the ojol service he oversees provides a choice of motorbike sizes such as XL for larger body sizes.
“I have replaced the shock on my motorbike because it is easy to carry large passengers,” he explained.
However, he apologized to netizens for the commotion caused and promised to be wiser in using social media in the future.
There is still a lot of criticism
Even though he has apologized and regretted the incident that occurred, the driver still received harsh criticism from netizens.
