Astra Agro Continues to Innovate in the Palm Oil Industry, Optimizing Digitalization and Pest Control Insect Army

Fajar.co.id, Yogyakarta — The problem of pests is a challenge for increasing the productivity of palm oil plantations. However, handling the negative impacts of insects without implementing sustainability principles can also result in other losses, especially environmental damage.

Therefore, innovation is needed as a breakthrough for sustainability. “Technology-based insect control efforts are part of our big strategy towards low-emission palm oil plantation operations,” said Director of PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk, Bandung Sahari in an official statement, Friday 12 December 2025.

This was also conveyed when Bandung Sahari was a speaker at the 2025 International Conference Indonesian Plan Protection Summit, in Yogyakarta, last Friday.

He explained, as an oil palm plantation company with a vision of becoming the most productive and innovative agribusiness company in the world, Astra Agro believes that a scientific and technological approach is the key to the future of sustainable palm oil plantations.

In a conference with the theme Redesigning the Future of Plant Protection: Strengthening Collaboration for Future Resilience and Food Sovereignty, Bandung explained the application of AI in the Pest Monitoring System.

Through the use of digital-based technology, Astra Agro can be more precise in predicting pest attacks. The appearance patterns of various pests can be more easily recognized, so that appropriate pest control techniques can be determined more quickly and with precision.

Digital technology with artificial intelligence (AI) has been applied so that information can be received from the field in real time with a high level of precision. Pest control decisions can be made quickly, without waiting for data compilation because it has been completed with the help of AI.
